The letter shown below is signed by Prince Philip and states as follows:
I am delighted to send my best wishes to the Radio Society of Great Britain on the organisation of the 80th Commonwealth Radio Contest. To have survived for so many years implies that the authors of the Contest hit on a very successful formula.
I would like to take this opportunity to send my best wishes to everyone taking part in this Contest. I hope that they will all find it a challenging and rewarding experience.”
The Commonwealth Contest (formerly known as the British Empire Radio Union - BERU) is one of the longest-running contests in the HF contesting world. It promotes contacts between stations in the UK&CD, Commonwealth and Mandated Territories.
The contest runs from 10:00 UTC on March 11 until 10:00 UTC 12 March 12. It is CW only on the 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10m bands.
Contacts can be made with any station in the RSGB Commonwealth Call Area List except stations in the entrants own call area.
